WHAT IS THE HOLLER POETRY CONTEST ALL ABOUT?

H.O.L.L.E.R!: Heather On Literary Lives of Excellence Revisited: An Anthology of a Decade Project, was founded in 2005 by  Heather Covington,  publisher of Disilgold Soul Literary Review Online as featured at www.Disilgold.com  to historically recognize, document, showcase and celebrate some of the most prolific writers of  poetry on the turn of the 21st century and their poetry works. Only the Top 100 Poets worldwide will gain publishing in this highly anticipated and historical work featuring a biography, photo and poetry showcase of each contributor. The publication is due by 2008. The publication currently has 25 winners so far and is expected to announce 25 more winners in 2006 via weekly sponsored PerSOULnalities YOU Poetry e-Bash Contests  powered by the renown DLNA Awards E-Newsletter. Entrants are automatically signed on upon registration. Entrants must also submit an additional motivational and educational poem for youth to be featured in spin off version also due 2008. Young readers will get to enjoy work from today's top authors as well.

FINALISTS WILL BE JUDGED BY CELEBRATED NAACP IMAGE AWARD WINNING AUTHOR, OMAR TYREE, ALSO AUTHOR OF WHAT THEY WANT.

WHAT MAKES HOLLER UNIQUE?

 What makes HOLLER so unique, is that everyone can participate from 18-94. HOLLER welcomes celebrities, political leaders, entertainers, artists, career professionals, media personalities, authors and poets to contribute to the anthology. Portions of book sales will go toward children's educational programs, a traditional goal conceived  at the inception of Disilgold Publishing under the F.O.S.P. (Fingertips of Success Program) since 2001.

Cynthia Highsmith Hooks, one of the 1st top 25 poets, participated in the PerSOULnalities YOU Poetry Bash Contest in 2003 and won the Omar Tyree Poetry Circle Award for entry of "I Am A Poet." Her poem will grace HOLLER: Heather On Literary Lives of Excellence Revisited. HOLLER features a  tribute to the top 25 poets.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS  OF ENTERING THE HOLLER WRITERS ANTHOLOGY CONTEST?

HOLLER has been spotlighted nationally and is one of the most popular poetry contests online originated in the Bronx, a place synonymous with historically legends. It's publisher, Disilgold, which opens its doors officially in 2006 as a  source for compiled historical anthologies, has acquired international acclaim for its YOUnity Reviewers Guild Literary Awards division established in 2003  and gaining the attention of the Daily News several times, renown Amsterdam News ( The Largest Black Newspaper), Caribbean Life ( New York's popular local newspaper), the Bronx Times ( Largest Bronx News Source), and AMAG, a Brooklyn born publication. In addition, the founder has been featured on the Learning Channel, BCAT TV, Manhattan Neighborhood Network Television, 88.7fm, 97.1fm, 98.7 KissFM and 107.5fm.

The contributors of HOLLER have been featured in major media as well. Denise Campbell, founder of the Reclaiming Life Campaign, designed to help prevent domestic violence, has been featured in the Daily News with a full spread feature. Her works range from poetry to urban fiction murder mysteries and drama.

HOLLER WRITERS SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The Holler Anthology is an 8x11  250 page anthology compilation. All individual poetry submissions must be typed on 8x11 white paper.   Use  GEORGIAN print for entire poem and 12 font except for title, use 13 fontBegin poem 2 inches from top. Type title in ALL CAPS and BOLD PRINT center justified. Skip 1 line after title and type author's full name. List COPYRIGHT date directly below author's name. For COPYRIGHT, do not skip line after author's name. Use REGULAR, not bold  GEORGIAN FONT still, but italicize) in 10 FONT. Be sure to include the COPYRIGHT symbol with year of copyright. Use your insert key in your word program and search for the COPYRIGHT typographical symbol. Skip a line after COPYRIGHT. For poem, use 12 font and center justify text. Be sure to leave 1 inch at bottom. If you need to continue poem on a new page, try this method instead. 

Use title format as suggested  above and follow all guidelines. Now go to your column program. Make 2 columns. Proceed to type your poem in one column, but right justify text toward center of paper. Begin rest of poem after you have reached 1 inch above bottom in the next column, but left justify text this time. Shift poetry as needed so text lines up evenly and neatly. If this format is too complicated, proceed to next page utilizing aforementioned guidelines with title and copyright, but this time add the words (CONTINUED) after title with a hyphen and space. The word CONTINUED should be typed in all caps. We will send mailed guidelines upon registration.

Disilgold will mail an application upon request via a  written or typed query requesting to join HOLLER and SASE ( Self addressed stamped envelope due to thousands of entries expected).Thank you for your cooperation.

Upon receipt of our application, expect to also submit the following:

  • 1.  Application
  • 2. 150  Word Biography
  • 3. Photo (Face Shot)- Must have clarity
  • 4.  2 copies of  up to 5 Poetry Submissions in Proper Format
  • 5. Any book samples if applicable
  • 6. Full contact sheet (EMAIL/ WEBSITE/ ADDRESS/ PHONE NUMBER
  • 7. If an author- Submit a media kit
  • 8. Expect to email your biography and poetry inline text style upon approval and contact by Disilgold.

By participating in the HOLLER Writer's Anthology Contest, you understand Disclaimer and all provisions and agree that Disilgold bears the right to utilize its discretion upon publishing any submission, can terminate publishing at anytime and is not entitled to pay contributors  before, during or after publishing.  You agree and understand that you are the owner of said work, COPYRIGHT bearer, grant Disilgold unlimited use to publish work and photo via electronic format, via online, documentaries, movies, tele-communications, advertisements, anthologies, affiliate publisher's works, and all subsequent forms of communication for unlimited use minus request for corrections, update of biography, vocabulary, content or arrangement.
